TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - About 11,000 rice farmers from this city and other municipalities in Quezon province received at total of P165M from SureAid funds as part of the government’s assistance to rice farmers tilling one hectare and below.
Agriculture Secretary William Dar along with Rep. Mark Enverga and Tayabas City mayor Ernida Reynoso distributed the financial assistence after a farmer’s forum and turn-over of equipment and seeds for vegetable production worth P16M to rice farmers in Tayabas City on November 8.
Sec. Dar said that under the credit assistance program jointly implemented by the Agricultural Credit Policy Council and the Land Bank of the Philippines, each rice farmer registered under the RSBSA will receive P15,000 payable in eight years at zero percent interest.
Aside from the loan, the Department of Agriculture will be carrying out “Buy 2, Take 2” fertilizer program. Under the program farmers will receive 2 bags of urea fertilizer for every 2 bags bought.
“We are putting these things in place because we want to make sure that Filipino farmers increase their production and income,” Secretary Dar added
The Department of Agriculture with its vision of a food-secure Philippines with prosperous farmers and fisherfolk, is pushing for measures that will ensure better yield and economic gains in the countryside.
Sec. Dar also mentioned in his that the performance of Philippine agriculture for the third quarter of the year reached 2.87%.
“Lumago ang sektor dahil sa inspirasyon at suporta ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, kaya naman po tayo ay nagpapasalamat sa pagbibigay ng pansin at prayoridad sa agrikultura,” he said.
