CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Laguna Provincial Health Office (PHO) has set in place health protocols to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus Diseases 2019 (COVID-19) even as the health department has recorded some 27 persons under investigation (PUI) in the Calabarzon region as of Feb. 11.
(CALABARZON COVID-19 Update: As of Feb. 12, 10 a.m.: 27 PUIs have been discharged; 10 PUIs admitted; no confirmed case - DOH)
Provincial health officer Dr. Rene Bagamasbad said the PUIs had history of travel abroad and exhibited symptoms like fevel, cough and colds. They are currently admitted in the isolation rooms of the Laguna Medical Center in Sta. Cruz and San Pablo District Hospital.
He said Laguna remains free of COVID-19 despite the presence of PUIs.
“Mayroon tayong ibinaba na tinatawag na Decision Tree, nakalagay po roon na ang hinahanap lang natin (upang masabing PUI) ay apat. May symptoms ka na lagnat, ubo at sipon, ikaw ay may travel sa China o sa ibang bansa, at mayroon kang history ng close contact with the confirmed case,” he explained.
(“We laid down a Decision Tree that indicates four factors to determine PUIs: you have symptoms such as fever, cold and cough; you have traveled to China or other countries; and you had close contact with a confirmed case.”)
Bagamasbad assured that the provincial government has set in place health protocols to protect residents from COVID-19.
Hand sanitizers are provided in the Capitol premises while face masks are given to clients who may have flu-like symptoms.
He added, health corners will be set up in areas where people can inquire or check their temperature.
Public hospitals have also procured additional supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers such as gown, gloves and masks.
“This will guarantee that our staff will be motivated in taking care of the sick,” he added.
A network of ambulance transporters were trained while health personnel from the provincial down to the barangay level were briefed of their respective roles in handling PUIs. (MCA/Joy Gabrido/PIA 4A)
