CALAMBA CITY - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Local Government Units (LGUs), has warned against shellfishes collected in various coastal waters around the country due to the presence of paralytic shellfish poison that is beyond regulatory limits.
In its bulletin dates January 22, BFAR's Information and Fisherfolk Coordination Unit said shellfishes at Puerto Princesa Bay, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan; coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol; Irong-irong and Silanga Bays in Western Samar; Cancabato Bay, Tacloban City in Leyte; and Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur remain positive for paralytic shellfish poison.

The advisory added that all types of shellfish and acetates locally known as alamang gathered from these areas are not safe for human consumption.
Moreover, coastal waters of Bataan (Mariveles, Limay, Orion, Pilar, Balanga, Hermosa, Orani, Abucay and Samal); San Pedro Bay in Western Samar and Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar are now free of the toxic red tide.
The rest of coastal waters in the country including Cavite province remain safe from red tide. (PIA-Laguna with BFAR reports)
