CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – Not only the people of Batangas were affected by the Taal eruption, but even the historical museums that were prompted to evacuate their artifacts to a safer place.
Artifacts from the Museo nina Marcela Marino at Felipe Agoncillo and Museo nina Leon at Galicano Apacible under the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) located in the town of Taal in Batangas Province were temporarily transferred to Museo ni Jose Rizal in this city on January 17, 2020.
“There are portraits painted by Fernando Amorsolo, personal belongings like combs, jewelry box and other accessories,” said Senior Shrine Curator Zarah Escueta.
She explained the artifacts were evacuated to the Calamba museum only for safe keeping hence these are not exhibited as of the moment.
The Curator said staff of the two museums are currently conducting the clearing of the museums from the ashfall brought about by the Taal activity.
“The evacuated artifacts are subject for conservation as protocol. It is still due for condition assessment according to our Conservators,” she explained. (Joy Gabrido/PIA 4A)
