ANTIPOLO CITY, Riza - The University of Rizal System Morong Campus served as the Calabarzon Gender and Development Committee venue for Women's Month 2020.

DAR Calabarzon hosted the program proper wherein Undersecretary Atty. Carim Panumpang represented Secretary John Castriciones as keynote speaker.

Undersecretary Panumpang mentioned various GAD advocacies during this speech including the usage of materials based heavily on the Magna Carta of Women (Republic Act 9710) which seeks to eliminate discrimination and promote women's rights especially in vulnerable sectors of society.

In Calabarzon, regional director Rene Colocar also reported relevant strides the agency has taken in order to ensure equal opportunities of agrarian beneficiaries.

"We would like to announce that today we have 90% EPs (emancipation patents) and CLOAs (certificates of land ownership awards) that are under the name of both husband and wife."

"30% of CLOAs are also under the name of the female (spouse). Out of 88,000 we have around 28,000 that are registered to women," Director Colocar added.

Director Colocar also stated that the agency's land ownership/transfer processes also require the consent of partners/spouses to ensure the validity of ownership.

The director said that of the 268 government-assisted agrarian reform beneficiary (ARB) organizations in Calabarzon, 35% of top positions are occupied by women.

Director Colocar added that he looks forward for not only an equal number of women in leadership positions but perhaps a higher number due to exceptional leadership skills shown by women.

Morong Municipal Mayor Olivia De Leon, University of Rizal System President Dr. Nancy Pascual, National Economic Development Authority Regional Director Luis Banua were also present during the program alongside other local officials.

Towards the latter part of the program, the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) featured a 2015 short film created by students entitled "Positive" which features the consequences of teenage pregnancy.

"Martsa na, Juana" was deemed the winning entry of the hashtag making competition held during the program.

Male employees of DAR and other regional line agencies capped off the activity by handing over roses to all female employees. (GG/PIA-Rizal)
