"A man always mistakes a woman's clinging devotion for weakness, until he discovers that it requires the strength of Samson, the patience of Job, and the finesse of Solomon to untwine it." - Helen Rowland
A thought-provoking video of Cynthia Nixon 'Be a Lady They Said' https://youtu.be/z8ZSDS7zVdU on YouTube last February 24, 2020, reciting the myriad contradictory messages faced by women has sent 'chills' to every social media users who has watched the video, with thousands applauding the 'potential' and 'necessary' film, became a viral sensation. The viral video has already been viewed on Instagram 2.7 million times, on Facebook at least 1.4 million times and on YouTube 235,000 times. Though Girls. Girls. Girls. Magazine designed it, the words were simply adapted from a December 2017 essay by Camille Rainville entitled 'Be a Lady They Said,'.
Be a lady, they said. This is so powerful and demonstrates the double standards and judgment women face. This hit me deep in my core and brought out so much emotion I didn’t know I was holding. They have crystallized the impossibility of being a woman so strongly. I can attest to the fact that these are all things I have heard, or a woman I know has heard. It also breaks the stereotype that if a man takes orders from a woman he is 'whipped' and she is a 'bossy b*tch'.
I've always been a rebel. I am a b*tch, who always curse, bossy and full of pride. But brother I have a good heart and I am not a liar, you and your so called 'friends' know that.
Cynthia, 53, recorded the video for Girls. Girls. Girls. Magazine, speaking emotionally about all the things women are told to do and be to ' be a lady ' in front of a camera. As women's photos flash on the screen, she lists the most popular lessons being taught to women, such as ' do not be too fat, ' but ' do not be too slim, ' ' Botox your wrinkles, ' but ' look natural, ' and ' do not be a w***e ' but ' do not be cautious. ' Her reading brought the essay to a wider audience, as the Sex and the City Star lend gravity to the weighty words. There's nothing like a TV and movie star to tell us how hard it is to be a lady.
Make sure that you get the idea right. This is a great video with a very important message, well done. The true message of the video is the world is not toxic and cruel, your environment is.
Most of the subjects in the video are pushed by the fashion industry, beauty industry, music industry, cosmetic industry, entertainment industry, etc.
Comfort, equality, and acceptance is, in fact, a dying civilization's apathy. It is capitalism that is social justice. If you do a lot of it, anything can be a poison. That's not safe. Civilization as its dominant features requires to have pain, injustice, and bigotry.
Many people do not seem to realize that the message of the video is more complex than' we're told not to do this and it's not fair.' Every single sentence in this video is a definitive statement about a particular issue that girls and women grow up learning subconsciously. Not by men or women alone, by everybody known as culture, so' THEY said.'
They are ideals and prejudices which have been around for centuries and are practiced 24/7 in such subtle ways that we don't even consider them as normalized. We always criticize and control the shape of our bodies, what we do with our bodies and what's inside our bodies. And we are blamed above all for what others do to our bodies. This video highlights the number of values that women are expected to follow in some way or another. It's not saying that these are the only problems, it's not saying that we feel sorry, it's not saying that men have no problems and it's not saying that this is the fault of all men. It makes people conscious of all these conflicting expectations ' ridiculousness. I think it's a good way to say that it's impossible to meet those standards, you'll never succeed.
No-one is even going to change the system. Only you've got the strength. When you can't persuade people who don't like you to avoid their bullying and abuse, just stuff around. If you're surrounded by crazy people, who don't love you and appreciate you, just cut them off or they're going to destroy your personality. You won't change anyone but you've got the power to change your environment.
The world is sick and filled with insane random people who will tell you something bad about yourself and ruin your day. This can affect us and can cause us to doubt ourselves. You will find at least one specific person doing bad behavior on you and ruining your day-to-day self-esteem. It can be your neighbor and in most cases, it can be just anyone, these people are saying I'm just trying to help. I would say that cutting toxic individuals out of life is the only way to become happy and successful because there is no human being in the world who can live happily with toxic people or toxic persons in their atmosphere. Life is breathtaking and the world is open to all of us. We should pronounce ourselves.
Judging people is a problem. Telling people how to live is a problem. It should stop. Got it?! That's my final judgment. Ironic.
To every incredibly brave woman so I say, we all just keep doing whatever we want. Don’t just be beautiful and well made. Act like a lady, think like a boss, be your sugar daddy, overcome the prejudices and have fcking high standards. Don't be just a lady, be the person you want to be and do what you want to do! If you are invited to the table, sit at the table and claim your space. Step upfront, take the first step and lead!
