LUCENA CITY - The husband of a suspected carrier of coronavirus (COVID-19) who died on Saturday midnight has cried foul over "severe criticism" his family is suffering over the incident.
The woman, 55, who wasnsuspected to be the first casualty of the dreaded virus in Quezon province was an employee of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and resident of Sariaya, Quezon.
"The victim's widower, an engineer by profession is appealing to the public not to treat his late wife as a culprit in the incident but as a victim", said Arlene Genove, a municipal councilor of Sariaya town and a friend of the grieving family.
Genove described the tragic incident, and the pain the family are suffering, including derogatory remarks from some of their kababayans and bashing from people on social media especially on Facebook.
"Can they conceive what our two young children feel over the sudden loss of their mother? The children were deprived of the oppurtunity to see their departed mother for the last time because her body was immediately cremated. And now, we are being treated by some people like criminals as if we had wronged them", Genove quoted the busband in lamentation.
Genove said the husband and the two children are presently undergoing home quarantine in separate rooms on orders of health officials.
She appealed to the public to pray for the safety of the family against the deadly virus and for the eternal peace of their loved one's soul.
The victim's death was known to public only last Sunday night after it was announced by Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Grace Santiago.
The health officer also announced that a person classified as turned positive for COVID-19.
