LUCENA CITY - Five patients claasified as "probable" coronavirus desease (COVID-19) cases have died in Quezon province, local health officials announced on Saturday.
Dr. Grace Santiago, chief of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) said those who died were from the towns of Quezon, (a 60 year- old female who expired at Alabat Island District Hospital), Atimonan (45, M, Nuestra Señora de los Angeles General Hospital), San Antonio (45, M, NL Villa Hospital), Catanauan (56, M, Bondoc Peninsula District Hospital ) and this city (79, M, St. Anne General Hospital).
Santiago said all the five patients have not been tested for COVID-19 virus before or after they expired in the hospitals.
She clarified that the patients have died separately several days ago but the reports on the incidents came to her office only yesterday.
"The late reporting might have been caused either by the late encoding of the data or the report submission from our personnel in the city and municipal level", said Santiago.
Apart from this, another suspected carrier of the virus from Macalelon town has passed away, bringing the total number of deaths on "suspected cases" to 42.
At present, the province has 81 confirmed COVID-19 cases as 2 more carriers of the virus were recorded by the IPHO on Saturday.
Out of 81, 53 have already recovered while 8 have died.
As to the suspected cases, there are 1,648 suspects in the entire province but only 79 are still admitted in medical health facilities as 981 have already been cleared on home quaranteen, 438 have been discharged in the hospital, 109 are still on home quarantine and 42 have died.
