LUCENA CITY - The continuing recovery of patients infected by the dreaded coronavirus desease (COVID-19) who have been confined at the provincial hospital in this city manifests the facility's efficiency contrary to allegations from some sectors, according to a local health official.
Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) chief, Dr. Grace Santiago said more than 90% of the COVID-19 confirmed cases were admitted and eventually recovered at the isolation facility of Quezon Medical Center (QMC).
QMC whose director is Dr. Rolando Padre is run by the provincial government of Quezon.
"The big number of confirmed and suspected virus carriers who were confined and eventually recovered at QMC is a clear manifestation that the medical staff and personnel of the hospital are efficient and not sleeping with their duties", said Santiago.
The IPHO chief said that of the 61 COVID-19 patients who recovered from the virus, 50 were admitted and recuperated at QMC.
It can be recalled that a private lawyer had accused QMC of being inefficient and even branded it as an epicenter of the VOVID-19 in Quezon due to a number of its health care workers who tested positive of the virus.
As of 12:00 noon today (May 21), the Quezon Public Information Office (QPIO) under Ma. Janet Buelo reported that Quezon has 82 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 61 recoveries and 8 deaths.
The remaining 13 patients who are mostly in good condition are still recuperating in different medical facilities.
As to the suspected cases, Buelo said the province has 1,680. Of the figures, she said 1,006 have been cleared on their home quarantine, 483 have been cleared, 95 are still on home quarantine, 52 are still admitted while 44 have died.
Buelo said the latest confirmed COVID-19 case recorded today is from Calauag, Quezon while the of the 3 recoveries, the 2 are also from the said town and the other is from Buenavista town.
