LUCENA CITY — In a statement, Quezon Governor Danilo Suarez is pleased to announce that the Department of Health has approved the first molecular diagnostic laboratory for COVID-19 'biosafety level 2 plus' (BSL-2 +) in Quezon province.
It is expected to improve the diagnosis and diagnosis of patients infected with infectious coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the province of Quezon after the Department of Health ( DOH) approved the first COVID-19 testing laboratory.
Ito ay matapos pumasa ang Lucena United Doctors Hospital and Medical Center, ang ospital na nangangasiwa sa laboratoryo, mula sa accreditation ng DOH upang ganap na makapagsimula ang operasyon ng molecular laboratory nito.
This was following the passage of DOH accreditation from the Lucena United Doctors Hospital and Medical Center (LUDHMC), the hospital that oversees the laboratory, to fully begin its molecular laboratory operation.
The LUDHMC will operate the Laboratory here in Barangay Isabang.
The governor added that it is predicted that the BSL-2 + laboratory will speed up testing of COVID-19 patients in the province due to its capacity to conduct 90 COVID-19 tests in one day and bring results in just two days.
“Nais po natin ibahagi ang magandang balita na approved na ng Department of Health ang ating COVID-19 bio-safety laboratory 2+. Dahil po dito, magkakaroon na po tayo ng sariling testing area at mapapabilis na malaman ang resulta,” Gov. Suarez said.
According to Gov. Suarez, in cooperation with Lucena United Doctor's Hospital Inc., Lucena City Government, and the Quezon Provincial Government, the laboratory was carried out.
On May 8, an agreement was signed by Gov. Suarez for the operation and administration of the said laboratory with the hospital president Dr. Gerardo Carmelo Salazar, and Lucena City Mayor Roderick Alcala.
The BSL-2 + molecular laboratory is the second COVID-19 test laboratory approved by DOH in the CALABARZON area.
The other two are in Los Baños , Laguna at the University of the Philippines and in Cavite at the University of De La Salle.
To date, Quezon province remains the region's lowest-confirmed COVID-19 case, currently at 79.
Quezon Province is among the country's moderate-risk areas to be subject to the 'general community quarantine' from May 16 to May 31. (with reports from PIA Quezon)
