SK Imok, Calauan to start free student tutorials amidst pandemic

BAY, Laguna – The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Imok in the town of Calauan found a way to help students to have a productive stay at home amidst the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

SK Imok is offering a free home quarantine tutoring and homeschooling service dubbed as ‘eSKwelantine 2020: A Home Quarantine Study Program’ to students from their barangay and nearby villages that will start on June 7, 2020.

“Ginawa namin ang proyekto na ito sapagkat naniniwala kami na hindi natatapos sa loob ng silid-aralan ang pagkatuto ng mga bata. Nais namin na tuluy-tuloy ang pagkatuto ng mga bata kahit na may nararanasan tayong pandemya ngayon,” SK Chair June Aldrin Gunio stated.

(“We did this project because we believe that learning does not stop inside the school room. We want their learning to continue even amidst the pandemic we are currently experiencing.”)

He stressed their aim as representative of the youth in their community to help students enhance their knowledge academically and to gain new skills even under community quarantine.

In their official Facebook page, SK Imok pronounced that this ‘eSKwelantine program’ may also serve as a recreational activity and a form of bonding among parents and their children.

This program is comprised of two projects such as the Project Bulilit and Project Techy.

“The Project Bulilit aims to teach basic lessons about English, Math, Science, and Filipino to our Day Care, Pre-Elementary, and Grades 1 to 3 students,” explained SK Treasurer Joseph John Glore.

On the other hand, he said the Project Techy targets Grades 4 to 6 and even high schoolers to learn the basic concepts of Information, Communication, and Technology.

The mode of learning will be a combination of homeschooling, modular, and asynchronous online distance learning.

Members of the Sangguniang Kabataan of Imok will serve as the teachers and teaching personnel. They are also open to work with other volunteers who are willing to teach.

Glore said this is a continuation of SK Imok’s Lakbay Aral Project which will be made to fit the current situation of the country where as much as possible there will no longer be face-to-face sessions and shall serve as preparation for the new normal.

He said the eSKwelantine was supposed to be exclusive for students who are residing in Brgy. Imok. But, due to the overwhelming feedbacks and support they are receiving from private individuals and various organizations even before the program starts, they have decided to expand the project’s reach among nearby villages.

“We will be doing a house-to-house visitation to enroll the students, to gain the trust of the parents and to raise more awareness of our project,” Glore added.

Interested students, parents and guardians who have queries and need additional information about the program are advised to consult and contact the SK Imok Officials led by SK Chair Gunio through their Facebook Account Sangguniang Kabataan Ng Imok. (Joy Gabrido/PIA4A)
