3 MPAs in Lobo, Batangas undergo 'habitat assessment' (Photo courtesy by BFAR Region 4A - Calabarzon) |
BATANGAS, Philippines - The divers of the Fisheries Resource Management Section (FRMS) covered by the Fisheries Management, Regulatory and Enforcement Division (FMRED) along with the Regional Fisheries Information Unit of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) CALABARZON conducted a Habitat Assessment in Lobo, Batangas June 17-20, 2020.
The three Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) which undergone the assessment are the Malabrigo reef, the Sulok Artificial reef, and the Sawang Olo-olo reef.
In addition, the group also held an exit conference with Lobo Mayor Gaudioso R. Manalo to better organize and safeguard the MPAs.
The habitat assessment is included in the management plan of the Lobo town government, Batangas which is conducted annually to ensure and maintain a clean and abundant ocean.
Meanwhile, Lobo, Batangas has secured 2nd runner-up at the national level for the annual BFAR awards for the year 2019 search for Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan (MMK).
If you will remember that the town acquired the first place in the event MMK: Regional Search for the Most Outstanding Coastal Community in 2018.
MMK: Regional Search for the Most Outstanding Coastal Community is one of the major BFAR programs that started in 2016. It aims to honor municipalities in the country with a unique initiative in caring for and responsible development of their oceans.
