LUCBAN, QUEZON - Personnel of a municipal police station including its commander have been ordered to explain for posting a message on its Facebook page insensitive statements against women which many netizens branded as a form of victim-blaming.
The controversial post, which has already been deleted, read:
“Mahalin natin ang mga kababaihan at huwag nyo abusuhin ang kanilang kabaitan. Kayo naman mga ghErlsz, wag kayo magsuot ng pagkaikli-ikling damit at pag naman nabastos ay magsusumbong din sa amin. Isipin ‘nyo rin!”
The post which has earned the ire of netizens, mostly women, prompted National Police chief Gen. Archie Gamboa to call for an immediate investigation.
For his part, Quezon police director Col. Audie Madrideo quickly ordered a probe and asked Lucban police commander Major Rizaldy Merene to explain why he should not be held liable for negligence under the principle of command responsibility.
In a statemen, Merene said the intriguing comment was posted by the station's radio operator, Venn Johne Abanador, a Non Uniformed Personnel who also served as clerk of the Police Community Relations (PCR) section.
Merene said Abanador explained that he posted the said comment with the pure intention of advising women to be wary of wearing clothes that might place them in an unsafe situation and end up with their need for police assistance.
The Lucban police commander said Abanador clarified that he made the comment only to show concern for women and not to blame them.
Merene said PSSg Rick Glenmar Saludades who is responsible for monitoring and supervising the station's Facebook page was at the field serving as driver of a patrol car when Abanador posted the message.
He added that their personnel have been performing multi-tasks as the station has been maintaining four Quarantine Control Points,
In an interview, the police commander said the statement was posted in good faith but its message was taken out of context.
But Madrideo said such statements of Merene and his personnel are being validated and investigated by Pre- Charge section of Provincial Investigation Detective Management Branch.
