CALABARZON - On July 18, 2020, the weekly achievements of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-A under the Plant, Plant, and Plant Program created an impact on the needs of local farmers in the region. As the Community Quarantine lowered from ECQ to GCQ, the active response is emerging and thus creating an effective way to help the back liners and people of CALABARZON.
A total of 93 farmers-recipients from Tanauan, Batangas received 426,656 pieces of cassava seed from DA CALABARZON In Tanauan, Batangas through its Cassava and Corn Program in line with the Plant, Plant, and Plant Program of the Department, which aims to increase the production of food throughout the region which has been distributed by the Tanauan City Agriculture Office (CAO).
The members of the Association of farmers shall be the main beneficiaries of the said program. Two of the associations are the Cagbalogo Farmers' Association (CAFARA) and the Sta. Ana Irrigators and the Farmers' Association benefited from the program.
In Calamba City, Laguna, The Rice Resiliency Project (RRP) under the Plant, Plant, Plant Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-CALABARZON has benefited the farmers in Calabarzon. The distribution of seeds was distributed last July 12, 2020.
A total of 24,355 farmers in the region received quality seeds and fertilizers from the project. A total of 19,511 farmers in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, and Quezon, with 24,832 hectares of rice fields, received 36,136 bags of fertilizers from the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) – Seed Program.
Approximately 2,093 farmers in Batangas and Rizal which are under the Expanded Inbred Rice Production have already made the most of the support sent by the department through their City/Municipal Agriculturist Office. A total of 3,000 hectares of inbred seeds allocation have been distributed with 6,000 bags of fertilizer.
On the other hand, 2,751 farmers in the provinces that are suitable for hybrid rice shave benefited from its Expanded Hybrid Rice Production, which allocated over 7,306 hectares of hybrid seed and 18,342 bags of fertilizer. The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the agricultural interventions they received from the Department of Agriculture through Rice Resilience.
In the province of Rizal, the Department of Agriculture (DA) provided Samahan ng Nagkakaisang Magsasaka in Brgy. Sta Ines, Tanay, with a floating tiller last July 8, 2020.
With the new floating tiller, farmers will have a short time to prepare their rice farms.
The recipients of the farm equipment expressed their sincere appreciation to the Regional Office, especially to Arnel V. de Mesa, Regional Director, and Dennis R. Arpia, Regional Assistant Director for Operations and Rice Program Coordinator, for their unwavering support, particularly during this pandemic.
In Quezon, Quezon Province, DA CALABARZON, agricultural equipment, and palay seeds were distributed in Quezon, Quezon, on July 8, 2020.
The intervention includes one unit of rice thresher with blower, tripod, and salaan with two units of shallow tube well and a collapsible hose, rubber hose and other accessories; and two units of seed spreader. The distribution also includes 20 bags of palay seeds from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
“The equipment and seeds they received are of great help to the farmers because their water supply, particularly the water pump, is scarce” Municipal Agriculturist Mary Rose O. Panol said.
She added that it will be the first time they use a seed spreader that the farmer-beneficiaries have accepted wholeheartedly.
