Even amid the pandemic, the Provincial Government of Quezon steps up in strengthening its agriculture sector to ensure food sufficiency throughout Calabarzon region.
Acknowledging the anticipated role of Quezon province as the food market for the Calabarzon region, Gov. Danilo Suarez emphasized the need to boost their farming, fisheries and livestock industries.
“I’m just trying to highlight dito sa ating mga magsasaka na napakaselan ng kanilang trabaho ngayon (dahil) dapat malaki ang kanilang output sa farm sapagkat… parang ang nangyayari ang food market ng Calabarzon will be Quezon,” Gov. Suarez explained during the Network Briefing hosted by Communications Sec. Martin Andanar.
(“I’m just trying to highlight to our farmers that their job is critical because they should produce a large output in their farms for what is happening is Quezon will become the food market in Calabarzon.”)
He said that their province is not only expected to become the main producer of farm products in the region but also of fisheries and livestocks.
To realize its critical role in this time of pandemic, the provincial government has continuously taken action and will soon finish distributing farm implements, fertilizer, certified seeds and farming equipment such as tractors and rice threshers, among others, to different parts of the province.
Farm implements were recently distributed to three far-flung Municipalities in the 4th District such as Calauag, Lopez and Gumaca, he said.
“Pati iyong Asian Swine Flu (ASF), kinontrol namin iyon at medyo normalized na itong ating pag-papa-ship kasi tayo, ang Quezon ang pinakamalaking nag-su-supply ng mga baboy sa region 4.”
(“We were also able to control the ASF and our shipping had quite been normalized because Quezon is the biggest swine supplier in region 4.”)
The Governor stressed their swift action in the control of ASF which affected the swine industry in the province.
He gladly pronounced that shipment of swine products had almost normalized which is vital since Quezon province serves as the biggest supplier of region 4.
More so, he also affirmed the provincial government’s support to the Balik-Probinsya Program.
Returning constituents under the program who would want to be involved in farming will be provided with certified seedlings, fertilizer and the likes. While, those who wish to enter fishing will be given motorized bancas.
The provincial government is also identifying livelihood and employment opportunities for their constituents who will come back from Metro Manila and overseas not only in the field of agriculture but also in infrastructure and labor force, he said. (Joy Gabrido/PIA4A)
