PALAYAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – Farmers in Rizal town have surrendered a visibly undernourished serpent eagle to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) on Wednesday.
The rescued eagle was immediately given a shot of Vitamin B complex at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Wildlife Rescue Center here which will serve as its temporary home.
Joselito Blanco, chief of the DENR's Provincial Environment and Natural Office (PENRO), said the dose of B complex was to boost the bird's appetite even as they requested the provincial veterinary office to check on its total health status.
The six- to eight-month-old eagle was named Paco Roman after the village in Rizal where it was captured by local farmers.
"Makikita sa mga paa at katawan ng agila na hindi ito lumaki sa gubat. Maaaring inaalagaan ito at nakalipad kaya nahuli sa bukid (The eagle's feet and body show that it did not grow in the forest. It may have been cared for and lost its way that is why it was caught in the field)," Blanco said.
An eagle from the wild have firmer body and beak stronger than Paco Roman has, Blanco said.
Paco Roman will be served meat while being taken care of until veterinary officials allowed it to be released.
"We will bring the eagle where it belongs so that it can play its role in balancing biodiversity," Blanco added. (PNA)
