BATANGAS CITY - The National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 specifically recommends the adjustment of local governments' containment strategies in the province of Batangas to put positive cases in quarantine facilities to prevent the rapid spread of coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19).

On Wednesday, September 23, during the NTF and Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) Team visit, Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. said. The 'home quarantine' was primarily among the reasons why they saw the rapid spread and rise in the province of reported COVID-19 cases.

It is alarming, he said, that more than 70 % of the total active reported cases of COVID-19 in the province of Batangas are only healing in their homes.

According to Sec. Galvez, most positive home quarantine cases would not be able to adequately follow the necessary health precautions that enable them, as well as those who come in touch with them, to infect their companions at home.

The Provincial Health Office of Batangas said that a total of 2,612 active cases of infectious diseases have occurred in the province, of which 2,004 are under home quarantine only.

That is the reason why Sec. Galvez is taking patients to quarantine facilities that would test positive for the illness. The secretary also told the NTF that it will assist in the rehabilitation of the province's additional quarantine facilities.

"Itong home qurantine ay tuluyan sana nating maiwasan. We will have directive na we will restrict home quarantine at gagamitin na natin ang mga hotels, mga resort at mga quarantine facilities para matutukan ang mga asymptomatic patients," Galvez said.

"Mawawalang bisa ang aggressive testing at aggressive contacty tracing kung hindi natin completely ma-isolate ang mga positive patients," the secretary said.

Sec. Galvez also reported that the introduction of home quarantine is one of the reasons why the number of COVID-19 incidents, including Cebu and Laguna previously visited by NTF Against COVID-19, has increased rapidly in some locations in the region.

Representatives of the NTF Against COVID-19 and the CODE Team went to Batangas this Wednesday, September 23, to file a number of steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the province.
