PIA rolls out COVID-19 information drive in Laguna
FIGHT AGAINST INFODEMIC. Philippine Information Agency Director-General emphasized that the series of Explain, Explain, Explain: Pagdalaw sa Laguna seeks not just to inform citizens but also to shed light on issues and “fake news” against the government’s COVID-19 response.

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) has rolled out an intensified information drive in Laguna in an effort to explain the response efforts of the national government to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Called “Explain, Explain, Explain: Pagdalaw sa Laguna,” PIA Director-General Ramon L. Cualoping III said the series of information drive is part of the commitment of the PIA to Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar who was designated as the “Big Brother” of Laguna to support and oversee the COVID-19 response efforts of local government units in the province.

Cualoping said the campaign is also part of the PIA’s renewed mandate to make citizens well-informed of the various programs, projects, policies, and services of the government.

“The PIA renews our commitment to Secretary Martin Andanar and to the LGUs that we will help enable you through various national projects and help people not just to inform them but for them to better understand government programs,” Director-General Cualoping said.

He added that the information drive seeks to explain various programs and strategies of the national government identified in the National Action Plan which serves as the government’s basic framework to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PIA chief stressed that the Explain, Explain, Explain: Pagdalaw sa Laguna also aims to shed light on issues and “fake news” against the government’s COVID-19 response.

“Naglipana ang fake news, marami ang mga misinformed na tao. Maraming mga kababayan natin ang nami-misinterpret ang mga datos at ang mga ginagawa ng local government units at ng national government. Nandito kami to explain the national action plan at ang pinaka-basic na framework para mahinto natin ang COVID-19,” Cualoping said.

Cualoping, together with Secretary Andanar and other key officials of the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government led the pilot run of the Explain, Explain, Explain: Pagdalaw sa Laguna on September 14 to 15 in various towns of Laguna including Bay, Los Baños, Victoria, and Calauan.

During the initial leg, key government agencies discussed various COVID-19 advocacy campaigns and programs such as the BIDA Solusyon, National Action Plan on COVID-19, Listahanan Program, and the Disiplina Muna Advocacy.

As the on-ground communication arm and an attached agency of the PCOO, Cualoping vowed to extend full support to LGUs in Laguna to help them in disseminating accurate information on their COVID-19 response efforts.

“Kami po sa PIA, with the strong team of Philippine Information Agency Calabarzon, we give our commitment and our support to local government units in Laguna, that we will help in disseminating what is truthful, what is correct, and what is vetted all the time. Ang role namin ay ituwid at itama ang mga maling balita,” Cualoping said.

PIA is set to bring the series of information drive to other Laguna towns in the coming weeks. (FSC)
