Lucena City, Quezon Province - On Friday, October 9, 2020, A flash flood-affected almost 200 families and caused damaged to some infrastructures and houses in Lucena City.
According to Quezon Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Janet Gendrano, seven towns were affected due to continuous heavy rain.
He said the water even reached the 2nd floor of the house, particularly in the low-lying areas.
Almost 225 families have been evacuated and are now staying in the covered courts of the barangay hall and school.
According to authorities, at least four houses collapsed along the Dumacaa River. The water level reached number 2 in the area past 1 a.m
Mostly, residents from Barangay Market View were affected by the flash flood.
The flooding stopped at 4 in the morning while residents were evacuating their belongings. But around 5 in the morning, they rushed because their houses were collapsing.
According to Magtibay, It was during typhoon Rosing in 1995 when the last time they experienced a high flood in their area.
Apart from Market View, the flood also affected six other towns here in Lucena. But the water eventually subsided because the rain had stopped.
