CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - In a bid call for 'Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan' nominees from various sectors, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will hold an online press conference via Zoom on October 21 (Wednesday), at 9:30-11:30 a.m.
“This is to encourage government agencies, LGUs, academic institutions, church or religious groups and civil society organizations to submit their nominations,” said Rene Napeñas, Head of Public Affairs and Information Office.
Referred to as the National Living Treasure, the 'Manlilikha ng Bayan' recognizes Filipino citizens engaged in any traditional art whose skills have reached a high level of technical excellence and have been passed on and widely practiced by the current generation in his/her community with the same degree of technical and artistic competence.
Past winners include Uwang Ahadas, Samaon Sulaiman and Alonzo Saclag (music), Magdalena Gamayo Lang Dulay, Salinta Monon and Darwata Sahabi (textile), Eduardo Mutuc (metalworks), Hajja Amina Appi and Teofilo Garcia (weaving), Federico Caballero and Masino Intaray (oral literature), and Ginaw Bolig (poetry).
