CAINTA, Rizal - A 15-year-old boy from Cainta, Rizal died after he had been fatally hit by a tree fall during heavy rains caused by Typhoon Ulysses, officials said.
According to Rizal disaster risk reduction officer Loel Malonzo, the child was the first fatality reported in Rizal, at around 3 a.m. in the morning, a tree fell to a house in Barangay San Isidro, where the child was trapped.
The victim was named as Robert Napenas Jr. of the Country Homes Subdivision in Cainta.
Malonzo, in a telephone interview Thursday afternoon, said that the rescue operation continued for thousands of residents trapped in deep floodwaters in San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal.
In a Facebook update on the status of Cainta Mayor Johnielle Keith Nieto, the floodwaters at Halang in Barangay San Isidro started to subside slightly, though major roads are now passable.
