Calaca gets lawmakers’ nod to become city

CALACA CITY - The Committee on Local Government in the Lower House of Congress had surpassed the requirements to become a component city, of Municipal of Calaca.

In a Network Briefing News led by Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, Calaca Mayor Sofronio Nas Ona Jr. said. that such law had already passed the hearing of such committee in October 2020.

According to Ona, it must also be submitted to the Senate en banc or as a whole before being presented to President Rodrigo Duterte for his signature. It is also necessary to have the plebiscite to find out the pulse of the Calaqueños in this regard.

The people further stressed that when Calaca becomes a city, it will earn more revenue that can be converted or turned into a project or program for the benefit of the people.

“Kapag naging ganap na lungsod ang ating bayan, mas lalakas ang komersyo, magkakaroon ng maraming negosyo, malls at mga bangko. Mas dadami din ang oportunidad sa trabaho at hanapbuhay,” Ona said.

Based on the Local Government Code, a town has three qualifications that need to be considered to become a full-fledged city including having a huge income of more than P100M over the past three years; having a land area of more than 100 sq. m. kms. and population count.

On these three grounds, Calaca passed the first and second qualifications so it passed the Committee on Local Government hearing in the Lower House of Congress.

Ona added that only now are many big commercials extending interest to build their businesses in their hometown such as Robinsons Corp., Waltermart, and other financial institutions. This is a great opportunity for the residents of Calaca town to get a job.

The town of Calaca is considered the "Haven for Agricultural and Industrial Modernization" because the ocean covered is deep and ideal for industrial ports or piers because there is no need to carry out dredging.

Ang mga upland barangays ay matataba ang lupa. Isinusulong din sa bawat barangay ang “one barangay, one product” kung saan dinedebelop ang produkto na maaaring pagkakilanlan sa isang barangay.

The upland barangays are fertile soil. "Each barangay, one product" is also promoted in each barangay where the product that can be identified in a barangay is developed.

Besides, the local government also provides technical know-how and machinery that will help to increase the yield of farmers and even the delivery of their products or yield.
