Cavite under state of calamity after 'Ulysses' onslaught


TRECE MARTIRES CITY – The Provincial Government of Cavite once again declared the province under a “State of Calamity” after the onslaught of Tropical Storm “Ulysses” in the province on November 11.

Resolution No. 1628-2020, a resolution declaring the province of Cavite under the State of Calamity due to the impact of Typhoon “Ulysses” was passed and approved by the Sangguinang Panlalawigan during the 16th Special Sesseion yesterday.



The resolution also authorizes the provincial government for the utilization of Php8,000,000 from the Quick Response Fund of the 2020 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund for the purchase of relief goods and other expenses for the benefit of those affected by the typhoon.

On November 11, the province was among the areas in CALABARZON and in other regions placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #3.



Based on the comprehensive situation report issued by the Cavite PDRRMO as of 9pm of November 12, 2020, a total of 2,364 families composed of 8,833 individuals were evacuated in the different evacuation centers in the province while 224 families or 806 individuals were outside evacuation centers.

Floods were reported in the municipalities of Noveleta, and Ternate, in the cities of Imus, and Bacoor, stretching from Aguinaldo Hi-Way (Bacoor-Imus boundary up to St. Dominic Hospital in Zapote 1) that was rendered impassable.



An unfortunate incident from the collapsed building in Barangay Langkaan 1 in Dasmariñas City resulted to 3 Fatalities and 3 injured while damaged houses reported were 14 in Tanza town, 1 in Imus City and 2 in the municipality of Mendez.

Power interruptions during the height of the weather disturbance until the next day were experienced in the cities of Imus, Dasmariñas, Trece Martires, Cavite City, and municipalities of Ternate, Alfonso, Gen. Mariano Alvarez, Indang, Amadeo, and Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo-Bailen.

Meanwhile, the different LGUs in the municipalities of Ternate, Maragondon, Naic, Amadeo, Alfonso, Mendez, and the cities of Tagaytay, Bacoor, Imus, and Dasmariñas conducted relief operations to affected families temporarily sheltered in the evacuation centers while evacuees in Cavite City, Noveleta, Rosario and Tanza have already returned to their homes by the time of the distribution.
