KALAYAAN, Laguna – Eighteen (18) members of a women's group in Barangay Longos attended the cooperative orientation seminar conducted by the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) headed by Engr. Edwin S. Bautista on November 9, 2020 in this municipality.
Composed mostly of micro-entrepreneurs with insufficient capital for their small business and livelihood activities, and oftentimes taken advantage by scrupulous money lenders, the participants thought of putting up a credit cooperative of their own.
They were taught the basic principles and concept of a cooperative by the PCDO training team led by Supervising Cooperative Development Specialist Mr. Noly S. Balboa, while Mr. Bonifacio Pascual and Mr. Amorsolo Cariño provided short lectures on their respective topics on capitalization requirement.
This is in addition to providing information on a cooperative’s organizational structure and the procedure on how to register the organization with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).
Said activity will be followed by a Pre-Registration Seminar (PRS) to be facilitated by CDA personnel for a more detailed discussion on the requirements for registration and compliance reports with said regulatory agency.
The orientation seminar was held upon the group's request for technical assistance from the provincial government as coordinated by Pastor John Albert Namit with PCDO.
