COVID-19 cases in Batangas are decreasing

BATANGAS CITY - The provincial health office (PHO) has reported a downward trend in the case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Batangas Province, based on the latest data released at the Batangas weekly meeting. Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on COVID-19 on November 3, 2020.

According to the Batangas PHO, there was a slowdown in the COVID-19 virus last October. There were only 1,905 aggregated confirmed number of cases or total infected and positive compared to September which was more than 3,388, the highest number of COVID-19 cases recorded in the province.

In the active confirmed COVID-19 cases based on the data, from Oct 25 to Nov 2, the number of cases in some cities and towns has decreased, including the return to zero cases of the towns of San Nicolas and Tingloy where recovered those recorded positive for the virus.

In addition, the Batangas PHO stressed that although there are still some patients in-home quarantine, it has been reported that the number of confirmed patients who are at home recovering has dropped significantly, since the implementation of the 'No Home Quarantine Policy' in the province.

It can also be considered a success because many Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities have been built and designated COVID-19 isolation hotels or better known as Oplan Kalinga, a reason to move positive patients to the appropriate facility, as an implementation, in the lead of the Provincial Health Office, a better containment strategy, so as to prevent further spread of the disease in the province.

Governor DoDo Mandanas was very grateful to the leadership of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 especially to those who make up the Oplan Kalinga Program.

“Maganda ang operation ng Oplan Kalinga. Nakita natin na malaki ang tulong nila (at) marami na ang tinutulungan nito. I would say it is successful,” Governor Mandanas said.

The governor added that in the province, he said the improvements and rehabilitation of the hospitals, including the construction of a new hospital facility, the Batangas Provincial Medical Center in Calaca Town, are still underway.

Dr. Rosvilinda Ozaeta, Provincial Health Officer who will not ignore the problem caused by COVID-19 particularly in the disaster experienced by the province where some people evacuated to evacuation centers. Dr. Ozaeta, some steps or processes to ensure that everyone can safely return to their respective homes or families without any infection or spread of the disease.

Dr. Gerald Alday, Incident Commander of the Provincial IATF also gave an update on the said meeting, said the Provincial Government will continue to liaise with Oplan Kalinga to resume Aggressive Community Testing in the province once the Red Cross allows for faster release of the results. He said it will be of great help especially to the families affected and evacuated due to typhoon Rolly which will show symptoms.

Meanwhile, based on Nov 2, 2020 data, the province's active COVID-19 cases have dropped to 800 while recoveries continue to increase with 8,354. The existing General Community Quarantine (GCQ) status in Batangas Province will remain in place for the entire month of November, based on the announcement made by the National Government, in accordance with the recommendation of the National IATF on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), on October 27, 2020.
