The Department of Health (DOH) - CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) today strongly warned residents not to go paddling in flood waters to avoid getting leptospirosis.
“The recent spate of typhoons has brought massive flooding in low lying communities of the region and everyone should be cautious in threading these waters as it may be contaminated with Leptospira bacteria from the urine of infected rats,” Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo stated.
Leptospirosis is endemic during the rainy season. Among its symptoms include high fever, muscle pain, eye redness, chills, severe headache, and yellowish skin discoloration.
“If we have no business going outside of our homes, it is best to stay inside and be safe. Iwasan nating dumaan sa baha dahil hindi natin nasisisiguro na malinis ang tubig at hindi kontaminado ng mga basurang nakakalat sa paligid kasama na rito and panganib na dulot ng pagkakaroon ng leptospirosis ," DOH-CALABARZON Regional Eduardo C. Janairo caution residents of the provinces who were affected by massive flood waters brought about by the recent typhoons.
