A short animation film by a Filipino author, titled “Lea’s Secret” was out and has reached Cannes International Film Festival and other international scenes.
The Film's whole cast and creators are all from the Philippines; from the writer and the director and its starring Voice Actors like Eugene Domingo and Candy Pangilinan.
The animation doesn't just bring a proud moment for its visual contentment alone, In fact, it started to be in print medium but then they choose to bring it to life because they have seen how the book had run out of prints, and that they want it to be easily passed by with a lot of viewers because the material of the story is the spotlight of this work and having to be in Cannes, it really opened a lot of doors and opportunities to educate viewers on this matter and that itself is the real victory for them.
Creating huge audiences as it should be, the film is surprisingly not just for the amusement of children or animation enthusiasts, its topic is not light at is seems it concerns the children's security when it comes to abuse. The target audience is most important for Parents that is always responsible for their children.
While its art form is more like to be compared with Parisian Animated style of 1985 texture, it is deceiving to be entertaining because of its mysterious vibe, yet they manage to not hide a glimpse of a sensitive message with its very tame color choices and its intriguing title.
The people involved in the film encourage writers to really bring their vision to life, especially when you know the message is what keeps the drive from you in making the art out and if you know it has a part of you that is very important and you know it will work. “Kung may gusto kang ikwento (If you want to tell a story), Augie Rivera, the writer says in Rappler Article.
Rico Gutierrez, the Director stretches the power of the heart of your story and believing in yourself “Kung Walang gustong gumawa, ikaw na mag produce! (If nobody wants to make it, produce it yourself)”. “Importante talaga ‘yung material. Ito ang puso ng isang pelikula" He says in Rappler.
They also tell the story of how they pass their Animation film in a lot of festivals here and there, because why not,, The greatest gift for the art itself is making a way for it to have a chance to be exposed while the fire is still there. One of 100 passes from the festivals others might deny but there is 100% chance your film will be accepted on some of those, so keep passing your films.
In a way this film is a tool to show a glimpse of reality towards what’s going on with children in an abusive environment, it might be very sensitive but in a way, they make it visually inhalable for us to see the truth. The whole creative output not just centers the brilliant animation, the people behind the work, the notable voice actors, and that it reached many festivals around the Globe, it shouts inside the animation screen, a message that brings to the spotlight the real uncomfortable story itself that aims to shake awareness to the viewers.
