On Wednesday, November 11, 2020, The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that The Province of Northern Samar remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, Due to Typhoon Ulysses and passengers bound for Luzon were stranded in different ports of Northern Samar.
Northern Samar has 3 major ports namely, Balwharteco, Sta. Clara, and Dapdap, that are located in the town of Allen, with a roll-on roll-off (RoRo) ferries that cross the San Bernardino Strait, carrying passengers and vehicles to Matnog port in Sorsogon.
In an advisory, Philippine Coast Guard Northern Samar head, Lt. Paterno Belarmino said that the travel ban for all types of vessels and watercrafts will be lifted until weather and sea condition improve to avoid possible maritime accidents.
“Vessels who intend to take shelter will be permitted to travel as long as it is manifested through a written request and no passengers will be allowed on board,” Said Belarmino
Other areas in the region under Signal No. 1 are the towns of Sto. Niño, Almagro, Tagapul-an. Tarangnan, Calbayog City, Sta. Margarita, Gandara, Pagsanghan, San Jorge, San Jose de Buan, and Matuguinao in Samar, and Maslog, Dolores, Oras, San Policarpo, Arteche, and Jipapad in Eastern Samar.
On Wednesday. November 11, 2020 As of 11 a.m. Typhoon Ulysses was tracked 100 km. north of Virac, Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 125 km. per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 155 kph.
Everyone is expected to stay in their place and to hold all transportation until further notice.
