REAL, Quezon - The municipality of Real in the province of Quezon was placed under a state of calamity on Friday due to the effects caused by Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses which in turn devastated large parts of Luzon.
It is based on Resolution No. 227-2020 submitted by the Sangguniang Bayan on Friday, November 13.
According to a resolution signed by Vice Mayor Joel Diestro, the typhoons affected numerous families in Real in terms of damage to their houses, livelihood, agricultural undertakings and fisheries.
According to the local government of Real, an estimated 9,125 individuals were affected which accounts for 21.22% of the 43,000 projected population of the municipality. Were directly affected by the successive typhoons Rolly and Ulysses in their town.
Under the resolution, the Sangguniang Bayan also approved access to the local government's 30% Quick Response Fund to be used for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Ricardo Jalad, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), said earlier that about 401,800 people were evacuated due to Ulysses.
Over the past two months, Ulysses, the eighth weather disturbance to hit the region, struck areas still reeling from Rolly, this year's most strongest typhoon in the world, which killed 25 people and destroyed thousands of homes earlier this month.
