POLILIO GROUP OF ISLANDS, Quezon - The typhoon left a lot of damage to the Residents of the island town of Polillo, Quezon and its main source of livelihood is crops and fishing.
In a Facebook post on Friday, November 13, 2020, Polillo Mayor Cristina Bosque said when she returned to the said town at 6:00 am, there were no casualties, everyone was safe from the typhoon, some drifted and damaged houses but no one died. The typhoon destroyed at least 500 houses and uprooted many big trees, including mango and coconut trees.
"Marami po tayong mga natumbang puno ng mangga, nasirang mga niyog, palayan, saging, iba't ibang pananim at halaman, nasirang mga schools, bangka, at iba pa. Nakakalungkot po ang nangyari sa ating mga kabuhayan, pero sa kabuuan, mapalad pa rin po tayo, kumpara sa nangyari sa ibang lugar." she said.
Various agencies of the Government from Department of Health Region IV-A, DSWD IV-A, Office of the Civil Defense, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office, Provincial Agriculture, led by Provincial Administrator, Roberto Gajo who is also the representative of Quezon Governor Danilo E. Suarez, along with Officers from the Philippine Air Force all went together to find out the current state of the said town after Typhoon Ulysses.
They had an initial assessment and asked Mayor Bosque how much damage the Typhoon caused to the various Barangays in the said town and promise that they will be back again for assistance from the National, Regional and Provincial Offices
CGSS Polillo Pers conducted a shore patrol operation along the shoreline of Brgy. Anawan up to Brgy. Taluong, Polillo, Quezon to negate all forms of illegal activity and maintain PCG visibility at saif area.
Philippine Army troops led by Commander SSG Morillo of Salipsip Detachment, Delta COY 1st Infantry Battalion 2nd, Infantry Division, Philippine Army quickly removed the obstructed trees on the road to allow vehicles from the town to the barangay.
Personnel of this station under the leadership of SFO3 Tommy G Fortunado, Acting Municipal Fire Marshal, as requested by Mr. Kristofer Alpuente, Mdrrm Officer conducted flushing of muds brought by Typhoon Ulysses and its aftermath. They were also conducted "limas bubon" to those households that their deep well taste salty due to storm surge. The troops returned to Barracks in 1715H.
There is not enough money for many people, and the typhoon either damaged or washed away many boats. There are still relief goods available, but Bosque said they would soon run out.
As of this writing, there is already electricity on the island, SMART Communication Lines already has a signal here in Polillo Town and some QUEZELCO powerlines have also been restored in some areas of Barangay Poblacion.
In addition to financial assistance, the mayor said Polillo needed medicines, relief goods, construction materials, and vegetable and fruit-bearing tree seedlings to restore livelihoods.
