CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON through its Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) Rizal initiated a massive bamboo tree planting activity along the shores of Angono River located at Brgy. San Isidro, Angono, Rizal on December 2, 2020.

About 145 River Rangers from the seven priority rivers for rehabilitation in Rizal were mobilized by the Provincial ENR Office to help plant 1,000 bamboo culms along the 2-3 kilometer stretch along Angono River. A clean-up activity was also conducted in line with the continuous efforts in the rehabilitation and conservation of the Angono River.

DENR CALABARZON Regional Executive Director Nonito Tamayo, along with Asec. for Field Operations-Luzon Gilbert Gonzales, Asec. for Climate Change and concurrent Director of Biodiversity Management Bureau Ricardo Calderon, Director of Forest Management Bureau Lourdes Wagan, and Angono Vice Mayor Jerry Calderon were present during the activity.

“Mas marami tayong maitanim ay mas maganda… Good for us. Good for Rizal. Good for the environment”, said RED Tamayo.

Bamboo tree planting activities will also be conducted in other priority rivers in Rizal, such as Boso-boso, Taytay, and Teresa.

These initiatives are under the program of Manila Bay Rehabilitation which primarily aims to restore the water quality of Manila Bay as well as to protect the streambank and our river systems.
