BATANGAS CITY - The Batangas city government has set aside P200 million for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines.
The city government is targeting 380,515 residents to be vaccinated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) which is the projected population by 2021 according to the Department of Health (DOH).
Region IV-A has been identified as a priority area where the national government seeks to achieve “herd immunity” where it wants a large number of communities to be given immunity to COVID-19 through vaccines to prevent the rapid spread of disease.
In this regard, Mayor Beverley Dimacuha instructed City Health Officer Dra Rosanna Barrion to contact League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) Executive Director Veronica Hitosis to request that Batangas City be given additional funds for the mass vaccination program.
The vaccines of Astra Zeneca and Pfizer are the vaccine the city wants to buy so it will contact its local companies counterparts.
Priority is given to vaccinating frontline health workers, frontline workers in various government agencies, indigent senior citizens, the remaining indigent population, and uniformed personnel.
