PNVSCA recognizes volunteers in the midst of the pandemic

LUNGSOD NG CALAMBA, Laguna - The individuals who served in the midst of the pandemic have proved that the spirit of bayanihan remains alive.

The Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), at the Search for Outstanding COVID-19 Volunteers (SOCV) held on December 16, in Cabuyao City, identified the unique volunteers who have assisted the government in serving others various services in the middle of the pandemic.

Maria Guia de Leon was presented as a unique volunteer in CALABARZON. As president of the Rotary Club, he has spearheaded various projects, such as ‘Pagkaing Dagdag Tulong’, which aims to address the needs of frontline workers and families affected by the pandemic.

According to de Leon, his experience in service has not been easy because of the bad comments he received.

He said, “Nakaranas din ako ng bashing mula sa mga taong hindi nakakaintindi,”

De Leon is just one of 17 women and men from different regions who have shown dedication to serving in the midst of the pandemic.

These include Clementia B. Lapas (CAR), JC Finale T. Siazon (Region 1), Dr. Zsa Zsa Meneses (Region 2), Dr. Joshua Toledo (Region 3), Napoleon Marilag (NCR), Melissa Grace Olit (MIMAROPA), Evita Tuazon (Region 5), Dr. Chris Gonzales Sorongon (Region 6), Atty. Jose Marie Gochangco (Region 7), Nino Labordo (Region 8), Jaime Salva (Region 9), Fr. Conrado Lacaba Casas, Jr. (Region 10), Vladimir Santos (Region 11), Jimboy Aldesco (Region 12), Gil Melo (Caraga), and Ascan Asgar (BARMM).

“Despite the risks of the pandemic, the Bayanihan spirit lives on. May this be a start of the fruitful partnership of promoting volunteerism in the local government, ” according to National Economic and Development Authority Acting Secretary, Karl Kendrick Chua.

SOCV is featured in the National Volunteer Month (NVM) celebration every December. It aims to encourage people to be partners with the government in implementing various projects as volunteers. (PB)
