BATANGAS CITY - The turnover ceremony of solar-powered streetlights was held under the Save, Invest and Nurture Access to Green Energy and Technology (SINAG) project of the Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC) in barangay San Isidro on January 29.
According to PSFI Program Officer Olive Sorio, its purpose is to reduce accidents on the national highway covered by the said barangay.
"Prayoridad ng Shell ang road safety, palagi dito dumadaan ang aming mga lorry truck at identified na madilim ang lugar na yun kaya isa ito sa mga solusyon na naisip na ipatupad kung saan marami ang makikinabang," Sorio said
According to President Boyet Malibiran, this is the fulfillment of their long-held dream and a testament to the PSPC's good relations with one of its host barangays.
"Ang kaunlaran ng pamayanan ay nakasalalay sa pagtutulungan ng barangay, pamahalaan at mga pribadong sektor. Ang kaunlaran ng pamayanan ay nakasalalay sa pagtutulungan ng barangay, pamahalaan at mga pribadong sektor," Malibiran said.
PSPC External Manager Darlito Guamos stressed the importance of such a project to ensure road safety and reduce the number of road accidents that are the main cause of death.
"Bukod sa environment-friendly, ang solar powered streetlights ay suporta din sa inobasyon sa teknolohiya sa enerhiya," dagdag pa ni Guamas.
Batangas City PNP Chief LtCol Gerry Laylo, on the other hand, said that the streetlights provided are a great help to maintain order and tranquility in barangay San Isidro.
Led by Pang. Malibiran and PSPC Terminal Manager Anna Estandarte are the ceremonial switch on of solar powered streetlights.
Earlier, the PSPC provided training to community volunteers in December on the maintenance and monitoring of streetlights.
PSPC also thanked the assistance and support provided by CDRRMO and DPWH for the said project.
