BATANGAS CITY - Despite the pandemic, the issuance of new and renewed business permits in Batangas City last January was good, according to Business Permits and Licensing Office chief Ditas Aguado Rivera.
The number of newly registered business establishments increased by 2021 to 323 compared to 2020 to only 231.
There were 8250 who renewed compared to 7986 last year.
According to the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) more than 300 of these are processed online.
Most new business establishments are retail and services.
The number is expected to increase as the Integrated Business-One-Stop-Shop (BOSS) extends business registration and renewal until February 15 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on the 4th floor of Bay City Mall.
At the beginning of February, the four groups of their office also started conducting regular inspections.
They contacted barangay officials to ensure that all businesses operating in the city have business permits.
Meanwhile, according to the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO), the collection of real property taxes increased by 62% from P70.2M in January 2020, to P 113M in January 2021.
OIC-City Treasurer Aster Marasigan stressed that this is due to the prompt payment by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC).
According to the record, the business tax collection dropped from P484M in January 2020, to P313M only in January 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the closure of 240 city taxpayers in the city.
