BATANGAS CITY - The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has started the registration of the National ID System for indigent and low-income households, residents of some barangays in Batangas City, on February 2 at the Office of the City Veterinarian and Agricultural Services (OCVAS) which is the designated registration center for biometrics.

Identified barangays with a large number of low-income families include barangays Wawa, Balagtas, and Calicanto.

The Philippine ID system aims to have an individual identity and facilitate and expedite government transactions.

It will be recalled that housekeeping was conducted for pre-registration in the national ID system or step 1 in October to December last year where the demographic data of the individual such as name, date, and place of birth, blood type, and permanent and present address.

The list is from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Step-2 involves taking an eye (iris) and finger scan or biometrics to ensure a person's identity.

According to Provincial Statistics Officer Raul Maximino Tolentino, only those with an appointment slip can register.

Caroline Turla, Registration Center Supervisor of PSA Batangas, said that they do not accept walk-ins or do not have an appointment slip with a QR code to prevent the influx of people.

He also said that they are making sure that they follow the health protocols implemented by the IATF in their registration.

The PSA is still studying whether to conduct mass registration and on line registration to accommodate more and to ensure the safety of everyone in COVID-19.
