Rep. Tan hit Palace exec over Tiktok video, drone flight

LUCENA CITY - Lawmaker assailed a presidential legislative assistant for launching a Tiktok video and drone flight shot to malign and destroy her character and reputation and that of her husband, Public Works regional director Ronnel Tan, and consequently demanded for his resignation.

In her privilege speech during a session in Congress on Monday, Rep. Angelina “Helen” Tan of Quezon 4th district, who chairs the House Committee on Health, condemned Undersecretary Jacinto Paras of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO), for the malicious and defamatory Tiktok video.

She filed on December 7, 2020 a formal request to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in this city to investigate and identify the perpetrators behind it, which pointed to Sovereign News Publishing owned by Paras.

The DTI has certified on January 22 that the business name of Sovereign News Publishing was registered on August 19, 2020, with Certificate 2094548 under the name of Jacinto Villegas Paras.

The NBI has summoned Paras on February 4 to explain but he failed to come.

There will be another summon for him on February 22 and Tan hoped Paras will be forced to face and shed light about the Tiktok video and the drone flight over Tan couple’s house in Quezon province.

“Pakipaliwanag lang Mr. Paras kung bakit nag-abala ka pang magpalipad ng drone para sirain kaming mag-asawa? ‘Yan na ba ang bago mong trabaho bilang undersecretary? Bahagi ba ito ng harmonious, collaborative and transparent environment na gusto n’yong mangyari sa relasyon ng Kongreso at Ehekutibo?” asked Tan, referring to the supposed job of the PLLO, which is mandated to coordinate and promote Presidential legislative initiatives and other administration-sponsored priority policy reforms and development programs.

The existence of the Tiktok video has been relayed to Tan on Decenber 1, 2020 by several of her friends and supporters as she was informed about a certain website https://sovereign.com/ containing the malicious and defamatory Tiktok video, which bears the caption “Exclusive: DOJ urged to probe Cong. Helen Tan’s hospital for graft” and “Corrupt Officials” written at the top.

Tan asked Paras: “Pero ang mas malaking tanong siguro Mr. Paras, sino ang nasa likod mo?,” adding that she cannot believe that Paras “will do this insane, blatantly malicious and contemptible thing on his own.”

Tan called on Paras and demanded his resignation from his post to avoid compromising his job at the PLLO.

She also called upon the House leadership to look into the matter as it involves a liaison with Congress “who, instead of sustaining a day-to-day collaboration with this chamber, is unjustly undermining one of its members all in the name of dirty politics, and hopefully not at our taxpayers’ expense."
