BATANGAS CITY - Despite the left and right challenges brought by the year 2020 to Batanguenos such as typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and the COVID-19 pandemic, taxation of lives and destruction of property in the calamities mentioned with the help of City Disaster were avoided Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

They were one of the offices that cared for about 30,000 families affected by the eruption of Taal volcano in January.

They ensured the safety of the evacuees and provided basic necessities such as food, clothing, medical supplies, and more.

In this regard, the construction of the Batangas City Evacuation Center in barangay Bolbok that can accommodate 2,000 evacuees if necessary is completed.

The construction of phase-2 of the Batangas City Command Center, which is expected to be completed this year, is on-going.

During the rainy season, they managed the repair and rehabilitation of DRRM infrastructure such as drainage, inlets and drainage covers and assisted in tree servicing, clearing and declogging of canals as well as waterways to prevent flooding.

CDRRMO is in-charge of monitoring Early Warning System Devices in the event of flood, earthquake and impending tsunami.

It has a 24/7 Emergency Operations Center that provides information through social media, text blasts, radio communication, local and national radio, and TV interviews for the readiness of 105 barangays in the city in case of emergencies and disasters.

They conducted an earthquake drill on November 27 with the participation of 1,298 participants in solidarity with the 4th Quarter Simultaneous Nationwide Earthquake Drill held in every barangay in the city.

There were 99 vehicular accidents recorded last year while 53 medical emergencies, 2 rescue operations, 17 physical trauma, and one fire incident were responded to by the CDRRMO.

In the ongoing fight against the threat of COVID-19, they are involved in the monitoring and strict implementation of health protocols implemented in the city.
