Cases of COVID-19 worldwide are easing up. The graph below shows a downward trend among all countries of the world while the Philippines is down from 18th to 31st place. As of today, the Philippines logged 1,744 cases averaging somewhere between 1,200 to 1,500 per day. According to DOH, the total active cases are 31,115, with more than 95 percent mild, moderate, and asymptomatic while the rest are severe and critical. The downtrend could be that it’s waning naturally or the inoculation is taking effect.
The four leading countries are almost the same the past months with the US having 27.9M cases, followed by India (11M), Brazil (9.98M), and United Kingdom with 4.07M cases. The infected people peaked on Jan. 21 reaching the highest number of 1,723,209 compared to last Feb. 16 with 192,266 recorded cases.
Indonesia is leading in Asia with 1.24M cases followed by Pakistan with 567K cases then followed by the Philippines with 553K cases. Japan is in fourth place with 420K infected citizens then Malaysia at the far bottom and other ASEAN nations.
By population, Thailand performs well compared to the Philippines. With a 66M population, it recorded a peak of 24,961 cases that if multiplied by 2 would have an average of 48,000 cases compared with half-million infections in the Philippines. Vietnam performed the best in ASEAN countries. With a population of 97M in 2020, it was able to control the spread of the virus to a very minimal 2,329 cases to date.
This time around when countries frantically negotiate for vaccines with giant pharmaceuticals, many vaccination boo-boos circulate.
