CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - The Department of Agriculture IV-CALABARZON granted the local government of Sta. Maria, Laguna a poultry multiplier breeder farm worth P5 million.
The breeding farm, funded under the Bayanihan Act II will be constructed in Barangay Cueva in support to the livelihood of displaced residents who were former overseas Filipino workers and employed in nearby regions and provinces.
According to DA-CALABARZON, the breeder farm can open a lot of opportunities for said barangay residents who will no longer need to look for work in other places.
Sta. Maria Mayor Ma. Rocelle “Cindy” Carolino received the grant during the ceremonial awarding held April 26, 2021 at the office of the municipal mayor.
In a news report from the Department of Labor and Employment dated January 27, 2021, more than 400,000 overseas Filipino workers affected by the Covid 19 pandemic had been brought home by the government.
Moreover, about 60,000 to 80,000 more OFWs are estimated to be repatriated this year based on reports from the various Philippine Overseas Labor Offices of DOLE. (CPGonzaga with report from DA-RFO IVA, RAFIS)
