MAUBAN, Quezon - The Department of Labor and Employment Quezon Provincial Office (DOLE QPO) remains optimistic in the attainment of its goal in achieving lasting peace and inclusive development in Quezon under Executive Order No. 70 with its provision of various assistance to marginalized groups and individuals in areas infiltrated by the Communist-Terrorist Groups (CTGs).

Last March 22, DOLE QPO turned over passenger boats, bigasan package and food processing items as part of its P1M livelihood commitment to the Local Government of Mauban to further improve the barangays in terms of providing livelihood opportunities through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Programs (DILEEP).

The awarding of livelihood projects was graced by DOLE Quezon Provincial Head Edwin T. Hernandez, Mauban Mayor Marita T. Llamas, Mauban Vice Mayor Marivel M. Trinidad, LTCOL Edward F. Canlas of the 59th Infantry Battalion, Cagsiay III Brgy. Captain Alexander Buenavides, Mauban PESO Manager Mayanne Unlayoa, Mauban Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Milagros Rosal and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan of Mauban.

According to DOLE Quezon Provincial Head Edwin T. Hernandez, DOLE is seeking to pursue the goals and objectives of EO 70 by bringing its programs and services closer to the people and allowing them to actively participate in governance and community pursuits that affect them.

“We committed ourselves and our efforts into this significant undertaking in furtherance of the national government’s massive campaign for sustainable development of the rural areas especially in barangays impoverished by the presence of the CTGs,” he mentioned.

“May these livelihood projects serve as your bridge in uplifting your lives and for the advancement of your community,” he said to the beneficiaries.

Underscoring the importance of the strong partnership between DOLE Quezon and LGU Mauban, Mayor Marita T. Llamas said that they will continue to assist the vulnerable sectors to help them economically especially during the COVID-19 crisis.

“I hope that these livelihood undertakings will grow and become sustainable even after the end of this pandemic,” she added.

Among the approved projects of the beneficiaries include the Bigasan Package to Cagsiay III Farmers Association with 25 members; Banana Vinegar and Dried Fish Production to Samahan para sa Agrikultura, Turismo, Sining at Kultura ng mga Dumagat ng Sitio Dakil, Cagsiay III with 25 members; and passenger boats to Cagsiay III Sea Transport Association with 50 members.

“Maraming maraming salamat po sa DOLE sa pagbibigay ninyo sa amin ng kabuhayan,” said Norma Asis, one of the beneficiaries of the bigasan package. “Makakaasa po kayo na amin itong papalaguin upang makadagdag sa aming gastusin sa araw-araw,” she added.

Another highlight of the event was the signing of the Peace Advocacy Covenant led by Brgy. Captain Alexander Buenavides of Cagsiay III. The covenant enjoined all the participants to respond to the government's call to unite in walking in the path of peace and to recognize that peace is the foremost key to fully achieve prosperity in their community.

The signatories of the covenant also vowed to respect existing laws with the sole purpose of raising the standard of living of the people and strengthening the relationship between the government and the people as an alternative way of addressing issues and conflicts.
