IMUS, Cavite - The national government will provide financial assistance by not more than P4,000 per family by the first week of April, a lawmaker said on Tuesday.
"President Rodrigo Duterte has already announced that the national government will provide financial assistance amounting to P1,000 per individual and not more than P4,000 per family by the first week of April," Gov. Jonvic Remulla said on his Facebook page.
Remulla also said that the local governments of Cavite started on a food assistance program.
Earlier, the government is planning to give the local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region and four provinces (NCR-plus) one month of their internal revenue allotment (IRA) during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from March 29 to April 4.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez of Parañaque City said the government is still finalizing the assistance to be given to the LGUs affected by the ECQ in NCR-plus, and it will be announced on Monday (March 29)
“It was discussed if each LGU will receive one the month of their IRA, which was done in the past,” Olivarez, who is also chairman of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), said over the weekend.
In April 2020, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) released P30.8 billion as part of the “Bayanihan Grant to Cities and Municipalities (BGCM)” upon the approval of the President.
The released amount was intended to boost the capacity of the cities and municipalities in responding to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The one-time BGCM is equivalent to a one-month FY 2020 Internal Revenue Allotment share of the cities and municipalities,” DBM said.
For his part, Olivarez said that in Parañaque City, they have already allotted funds to provide aid to the residents.
"But here in Parañaque we have allocated for the distribution of relief goods to our constituents,” he added.
