LUCENA CITY - On Tuesday, April 27, the Provincial Government of Quezon participated in the simultaneous flag-raising as part of the celebration of the Quincentennial Commemorations of the Philippines held in front of the Old Capitol Building at Lucena City.
April 27, marks the Philippine government’s milestone celebration of the 500th anniversary of the victory of Mactan chieftain Lapulapu over the Spanish expedition led by the Portuguese-born Ferdinand Magellan.
This was attended by Vice Governor Sam Nantes, 1st District Board Member Alona Obispo, 4th District Bokal Dhoray Tan, Provincial Administrator / Agriculturist Roberto Gajo, Executive Assistant III Jigs Panganiban, Executive Assistant II Tina Talavera, and Department Heads of the Provincial Government.
This activity was also supported by various towns in Quezon Province in honor of the Philippines 500th anniversary.
Dr. Walter Galarosa of DepEd-Quezon shared the history of the Philippines' Quincentennial celebration in relation to it, while there are still activities planned as part of its commemoration.
Governor Danilo E. Suarez, represented by Vice Governor Sam Nantes, stated that this celebration should be a response to God's call to do good as well as a call for unity to combat COVID-19.
Flowers were laid at the monuments of Dr. Jose Rizal and former President Manuel Luis Quezon in Perez Park at the same time as flowers were offered at the Hermano Pule shrine in Barangay Isabang, Tayabas City.
