LUCENA CITY - A lawmaker expressed support for the Department of Health’s (DOH) brand agnostic policy to avoid overcrowding in vaccination sites.
The DOH should inform the patient of the brand of vaccine that will be administered to him or her when he/she arrived in the vaccination site and should not force him/her to take such if he/she does not want to, House Committee on Health and Quezon Rep. Angelina Tan said.
“As a medical doctor, I fully recognize the right of every patient to appropriate medical care and humane treatment including the right to informed consent and information along with other inherent patients’ rights,” she said.
Tan also called for the DOH and other concerned agencies of government to intensify the national initiative to increase public confidence in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines through accurate and relevant information.
The government is currently in the initial phase of vaccine rollout with the availability of Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Sputnik V vaccines in the country. Likewise, the country is in the advanced stages of negotiations with the COVAX Facility and various other vaccine manufacturers.
