ANGONO, Rizal - Siefred's winning piece is titled "Brush Stroke Imitation" which bested 24 other finalists.
The awarding, which is done online, is ongoing.
In his short message, Siefred noted the value of prayer as he waited for the results of the competition.
"Salamat sa Diyos...malaking tulong 'yung panalangin. Salamat din sa pamunuan ng GSIS. Huling sumali ako dito noong 2009, at malaking tulong ito para sa mga artist laluna sa panahon ng pandemya," he said.
An alumni of URS Angono College of Fine Arts, Siefred has reaped various awards over the past years which include being Luzon winner of the 2020 Philippine Art Award, three time finalist of MADE, and Special Citation or Jury Prize in the 2016 Metrobank National Art Competition.
Siefred is the son of George Guilaran and Helen Grace Tayag-Guilaran.
As founding member of KUTA which is celebrating its 10th year of foundation this year, Siefred belongs to the third generation of Angono painters.
He has exhibited his works in South Korea as well as in local and national spaces such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Art Underground, Cevio Art Haus, Village Art Gallery, Ayala Museum, Blanc, Nineveh Art Space, Angkla Art Gallery, among others.
Siefred's works consist of black and white hues applied in a meticulous and tedious pointilist method coupled with old photos to highlight the remembrance of things past and reclaim the fragile memory of an individual and community. (With photos from Gian Francisco)
