BATANGAS CITY - “Tayo [Lalawigan ng Batangas] ay idineklara na ng ating Department of Agriculture bilang gateway ng agri-industrial business corridor para sigurado ‘yung food supply chain ng bansa.”
This was emphasized by Governor DoDo Mandanas in his weekly message at the joint meeting of the Batangas Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force and Local Health Board on May 24, 2021.
The governor pointed out that during the pandemic, it is necessary to change the overall operation of the agricultural sector so that various agri-based initiatives will continue in the recovery program of Batangas Province.
This includes an 'industrial approach' to major infrastructures that will address and further strengthen the province's important role today as a food belt or major producer of high quality agri-products not only for the greater CALABARZON but also in National Capital Region and even in other parts of the country.
This is related to several large projects underway, such as the trading center in barangay Malainin in the Town of Ibaan and the Regional Food Terminal in Barangay Sta. Rita Aplaya in Batangas City.
The purpose of the agri-industrial infrastructures is to help farmers, have efficient processing of various food commodities, and ensure adequate food supply, especially now that the pandemic caused by COVID- 19.
He said these and other plans being developed by the province during the disaster, particularly the threat of Taal Volcano, are also important.
Meanwhile, the provincial government, under the leadership of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, continues to cultivate unused lands owned by the provincial government to become potentially arable land that can be utilized for crop production projects.
In addition, the free use or lending of office machinery to Batangueño farmers for post-harvest activities on their respective farms has not stopped.
Governor Mandanas, on the other hand, is pleased that there are individuals and groups from the private sector who are voluntarily donating and lending their lands to be used for agricultural projects.
