LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – Even amid the pandemic, the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) found ways to open opportunities for residents of the town to make a living with the support of different entities from the national government.
The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program funded by Senator Loren Legarda with 71 workers and TUPAD #BARANGAY KO, BAHAY KO (BKBK) aided by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) with 95 workers started this week.
“TUPAD: TULONG alalay para sa ating displaced workers programs ito ng DOLE para sa mga mamayan na nawalan ng hanapbuhay (These TUPAD: TULONG alalay para sa ating displaced workers programs of DOLE are intended for the citizens who lost their jobs,” PESO Manager Gliceria Trinidad explained.
The TUPAD BKBK is specifically employed for COVID-19 mitigation, while the other one is a regular TUPAD program funded by Sen. Legarda.
The beneficiaries of these programs will be the displaced workers from this town and they shall work for P400.00 a day. Those under TUPAD by Sen. Legarda will work for 16 days while those under TUPAD BKBK shall work for ten days usually through cleaning the community, assisting in livelihood-related programs, or anything that may be assigned to them.
This batch started on June 1 and will end on June 28, and other batches will work in the succeeding months. This will continuously be implemented on a monthly basis engaging at least 40 workers per barangay for a total of 560 workers per month up until December 2021.
Aside from TUPAD programs, the Special Program of the Employment of Students (SPES) also commenced this week which caters to students who will work in the Municipality for 20 days and were assigned to different offices. This will help support the students with their educational needs like tuition fees or school supplies.
Among the SPES beneficiaries are 96 students under the local government, 12 under the Office of Cong. Ruth Mariano-Hernandez, and 50 who were funded by the Provincial Government of Laguna.
The Municipal Government of Los Baños led by Mayor Antonio Kalaw and the Municipal PESO headed by Manager Gliceria Trinidad work hand-in-hand with the national government to create more opportunities for employment among Los Bañenses as we face challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
