BATANGAS CITY - On June 2, 2021, an earthquake intensity meter was installed at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in Batangas City as part of the ongoing release of Batangas Province's disaster preparedness capacity, in collaboration with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The instrument is expected to measure the magnitude of the earthquake caused by the passing of the trip in the province, which will be immediately received and read by computers at the PHIVOLCS Central Office in Quezon City.
The project is one of the results of the Memorandum of Agreement that was not obtained by the Batangas Provincial Government, through Governor DoDo Mandanas and Dr. Renato Solidum, Undersecretary of Science and Technology (DOST) and Officer in Charge of DOST-PHIVOLCS.
According to PDRRMO department head Joselito Castro, the modern equipment is a big help in the disaster management office's performance. He also stated that the earthquake equipment can track the intensity of the walks that took place in neighboring provinces to be felt in Batangas.
The PHIVOLCS earthquake swarm struck Batangas Province in April 2017, with the epicenters located in the municipalities of Mabini and Tingloy.
