BACOOR CITY, Cavite - The number of commercial establishments sourcing their electricity needs from renewable energy sources such as solar power is growing in the country.
Solar power provider Green Heat Corp. general manager Robert Martin said in a press briefing Friday the company has six to 12 megawatts of solar rooftop projects this year despite the pandemic.“It will depend on the situation especially the limitation on travel, the limitation of working on various entities which require swab test (and) vaccination that limits us actually. But they are already in the pipeline and we are on that contemplative situation,” Martin said.
Glenn Tong, director of Green Heat, added that the majority of the company's clients have high power consumption during the day, such as malls, offices, manufacturing plants, and even residential buildings.
SM Bacoor recently announced to the public that they are using solar panels to reduce their "Carbon Footprint."
What Exactly Is a Carbon Footprint? This is the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into an area by fossil fuels and other sources of carbon dioxide. It is one of the changes or reductions made to combat our planet's Global Warming.
In collaboration with Green Heat Corporation, 3,114 solar panels were installed in the mall's 6,230 square meters of rooftop space, generating 128,000-kilowatt hours of electricity.
It also stated that in its first year, the mall will save P10.3 million on electricity bills and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8,493 metric tons.
This made the first SM mall in Cavite to have a solar power rooftop.
According to Martin, the installed solar rooftop can generate up to 40% of SM City Bacoor's power demand.
The mall requires 1.6 MW of power on a daily basis.
“As of yesterday (May 27), the power plant produced about 6,500 kilowatt-hour (kWh) of clean energy and providing 700 kWh for the mall,” Martin said.
According to Martin, SM City Bacoor will save an average of PHP10.3 million by sourcing its power demand from its own solar power plant.
He also stated that the facility will reduce over 8,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
