A lawmaker vowed to extend all the help for Cris Nievarez who will represent the Philippine rowing team in the upcoming Olympics – needs as he competes in Tokyo in July.
“I am very proud of what Cris, my kababayan from Atimonan, Quezon, has achieved not only for himself but for the country despite the hardships that he faced early in life,” Rep. Helen Tan of the 4th district of Quezon said.
The chairperson of the House Committee on Health pledged to extend whatever assistance the 2019 SEA Games gold medalist will be needing to successfully prepare and compete in the men’s single sculls event of the Tokyo Olympics.
“Being only the third rower to participate in this prestigious event proves that difficulties are meant to rouse and prepare us not discourage and dismay,” Tan said.
The veteran lawmaker said she would not think twice in boosting Nievarez’ morale by way of giving him all the support he needs because the Filipino rower has reminded her of her humble beginnings as well.
“Chris and I came from poor families. But through faith, hard work, and commitment to excellence, we both overcame the odds and won,” she said.
